Enable your customers to pay in instalments using services like Affirm, Afterpay, Clearpay, and Klarna.

What is Buy now, pay later?

The Buy now, pay later option allows customers to pay in installments, while businesses get paid immediately and in full. This can help increase conversions and attract customers who may not have been able to afford your products or services upfront.

Please note: Buy now, pay later only works on one-time payments at the moment.

How to accept Buy now, pay later?

To accept Buy now, pay later, you need to enable multiple payment methods for your one-time checkouts on Checkout Page.

Here’s how to do it:

  1. Open your Checkout Page dashboard and click on a checkout you’d like to edit
  2. Navigate to Settings, then Payment methods

  1. Select Accept multiple payment methods

  1. Go to Payment methods on your Stripe account
  2. Select Checkout Page from the dropdown menu labelled Select your platform and then Turn on buy now, pay later methods (or scroll down to turn them on manually)

  1. Preview and test your checkout to make sure it is working

Supported services

Currently, Checkout Page supports the following Buy now, pay later services.

These payment methods only support certain currencies and countries, and there are specific transaction limits as well.

Please note: Both merchant and customer have to be in one of the supported countries for Stripe to enable the Buy now, pay later service on checkout.

Affirm

Affirm is a Buy now, pay later service based in the United States.

Requirements

  • Available to merchants and customers based in the United States
  • Processing payments in USD
  • Minimum transaction amount is 50 USD
  • Maximum transaction limit is 30,000 USD

Afterpay / Clearpay

Afterpay / Clearpay service is currently available for merchants and customers in select countries, processing payments in any of the supported currencies.

Requirements

  • Checkout in a supported currency (see the table below)
  • Specific merchant country (see the table below)
  • Specific customer country (see the table below)
  • Minimum transaction amount is 1 USD
  • Maximum transaction limit is 2,000 USD or equivalent
  • Checkout needs to include the following fields:
    • Customer name
    • Shipping address line 1
    • City
    • Country - this needs to include the two-letter country code (e.g. US - United States, UK - United Kingdom as per the table below)
    • Postal code

Please note: To enable Afterpay / Clearpay as a payment method on Checkout Page, the checkout needs to contain the shipping address fields.

Klarna

Klarna is a service available for merchants and customers in Europe and the United States.

Requirements

  • Checkout in a supported currency (see the table below)
  • Merchant country in Europe or the United States (see the table below)
  • Specific customer country (see the table below)
  • Minimum transaction amount is 10 USD (or equivalent)
  • Maximum transaction limit is 5,000+ USD (depending on individual account limits)
